The National Aquarium in Baltimore is offering a one year veterinary internship in aquatic and zoo animal medicine. The collection includes over 16,000 animals (over 700 species of invertebrates, fresh and salt water fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals, including bottlenose dolphins).

This internship provides a unique opportunity for training in aquatic medicine at a facility with an extensive collection of amphibians, reptiles, and birds as well as terrestrial and marine mammals (bottlenose dolphins). This collection and the close working relationships between husbandry and veterinary staff, provides ample opportunities for hands on work with a wide range of terrestrial species that may be found in zoological settings, in addition to the aquatic collection. Our animal health procedures and protocols are based on AZA/AAZV standards for instance regarding quarantine, preventative care, animal shipments, animal training/enrichment, etc. We also handle marine animal rehabilitation cases each year (seals and sea turtles). The National Aquarium in Baltimore is an AZA accredited, private, not-for-profit organization committed to exemplary animal care, public education, and conservation. We have maintained an internship since 1993 with over 10 individuals participating in the program.
