International Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Symposium

Description: The Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS) in partnership with the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) and the Academy of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (AVECCT) will conduct the 16th International Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Symposium (IVECCS 10) September 11-15, at the Grand Hyatt in San Antonio, Texas. The American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologists (ACVA) and Academy of Veterinary Anesthetists (AVTA) also meet and participate as IVECCS partners.

This 4 1/2 day educationally intense clinical symposium will feature comprehensive programs on Small Animals, Exotics and Large Animals for veterinarians, technicians and hospital management staff. IVECCS offers the highest-quality continuing education available at any national meeting and is attended by the worlds most progressive clinical veterinarians, technicians and academicians, primarily representing specialty/referral practice, general practice, academia, and research institutions. AAVAC and UEPV Annual Conference
Date(s): Monday, October 04, 2010 / 10/4/2010-10/8/2010 4 days
Location: MERCURE HOTEL HOBART, TASMANIA
Description: This conference is designed to help veterinary practitioners meet the challenges of dealing with avian and unusual and exotic pets. Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 will be Avian sessions, Wednesday 6 will be a combined Avian/Reptile/Exotic day, Thursday 7 and Friday 8 will be Reptile/Exotic sessions KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Drs Nigel and Frances Harcourt-Brown. Both gained their Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons by thesis: Frances for Metabolic bone disease as a possible cause of dental disease in pet rabbits; Nigel for Diseases of the pelvic limb of birds of prey. Frances is now a Royal College Specialist in rabbit medicine and surgery and they are both European Specialists. They are both experienced international speakers who have lectured all over the world but not yet in Australia. Frances is the author of the best selling Textbook of Rabbit Medicine and Surgery and has produced many published papers on rabbits. Nigel has kept and bred parrots since he was at school and has written, contributed to and edited many veterinary avian texts (as well as some dog and cat ones). Frances and Nigel intend to present a set of lectures much of which will be applicable to colleagues in veterinary practice who see birds and/or rabbits in their clinics. VENUE Mercure Hobart is located in the city centre, only two blocks from the main shopping mall. The Hotel features Embers restaurant and bar, plus 140 spacious rooms with fresh, modern decor and either city or mountain outlooks. Mercure Hobart is situated only a short walk from Salamanca Place on the historic Hobart waterfront, an area well known for its many restaurants, cafes, bars and the famous Saturday market.

Practical classes in Avian Orthopaedics and Rabbit Anatomy and Dentistry will be held on Wednesday afternoon 6th October. Participants will learn practical aspects of orthopaedics of avian long bones, rabbit anatomy and rabbit dentistry.

Exotic Animal Medicine for the Clinical Practitioner
Date(s): Saturday, October 23, 2010 / Saturday, October 23rd and Sunday, October 24th
Location: Isla Grand Beach Resort South Padre Island, TX
Description: The American Association of Zoo Veterinarians is presenting an in-depth 2-day course on exotic, zoo, and wild animal medicine. Lectures will be geared to the private exotic animal clinical practitioner and are expected to include topics such as exotic hoofstock, primate and carnivore medicine as well as cutting edge topics in avian, herpetologic and geriatric medicine. Registration includes lecture materials, break refreshments, Sunday evening reception. 14 CE hours.
