SUMMARY - 2014 AEMV/ARAV/AAZV Conference by Dr. Chris Griffin, Immediate Past President, AEMV 2012-2014

The 2014 Annual Conference was held with AAZV and ARAV in Orlando this October. It was an excellent meeting in many ways - scientific content, social opportunities, being in the House of the Mouse possibilities, collaborating with friends and colleagues in a wonderful setting, and honoring those that have meant so much to our associations (and still mean so much to us!).

The program was exceptional, and featured presentations from all across the world. The conference opened Monday morning with a special presentation from Disney honoring Murray Fowler. We helped Oxbow honor Michelle Hawkins with the Oxbow Exotic Mammal Health Award. We had an opportunity to see part of Disney's Animal Kingdom that few ever get to see. We played in the Magic that is Disney. We shared laughter and tears with our friends and family as we honored Wilbur Amand for his 20 years of service to ARAV and celebrated Kevin Wright's life and contributions to our profession. Scott Stahl delivered a wonderfully heart-wrenching and cathartic review of Kevin's life and antics that left us all sad but grateful to have been touched (licked, fondled, groped or otherwise probed) by Kevin.

We received the results of our 3 association membership survey (there are lots of us that are members of AEMV, ARAV and AAV! more about this elsewhere), learned new ways to help our patients and learned more ways to have our clients understand their pets' prognoses. We dealt with some logistical issues (resulting in the not nearly famous enough "Filibuster" on Monday morning by yours truly) and saw the future with live streaming and on demand video of AEMV lectures. There is also a rumor that an exceptional conference will happen in Paris, France next April (iCARE 2015!).

New Officers were installed for AEMV (send all complaints - eh, suggestions - to Dan Johnson, President) and plans made for an exciting future (2015 and 2016 Conferences with ARAV and AAV!).

If you missed this year's conference, you missed a great opportunity to learn with your colleagues from the AAZV and ARAV in the land of the Mouse. It was truly a Magical Time. But all is not lost if you missed it - AEMV will be meeting with ARAV and AAV in San Antonio in August 2015 as well as with EAAV, ARAV and ECZM in Paris, France in April, 2015. Make your plans now to join us!
